CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland chapter of Women for Economic Leadership and Development, an organization that works to elevate women, on Thursday honored 12 Cleveland women for their leadership in their industries.

“They inspire others by living WELD’s mission to develop and advance women’s leadership to strengthen the economic prosperity of the communities we serve,” WELD President Barb Smoot said in a news release.

The nonprofit organization was founded in Columbus in 2003, and branched into Cleveland in 2016. There are also chapters in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Oklahoma.

The “WELDing the Way” honorees will be featured on the nonprofit’s 2019 calendar. They were selected from a pool of nominees, based on their commitment to develop and advance women’s leadership, their own leadership, and their readiness to advance to the next level of leadership. The theme this year is “Be the difference.”
